RIBA West Midlands 2023 Award Winners
We were delighted to attend the recently held RIBA West Midlands 2023 Awards at The Button Factory Birmingham. The University of Wolverhampton School of Architecture and the Built Environment (SOABE) was one of nine shortlisted projects and won THREE awards, including a Regional Award and the Client of the Year Award.
The former Springfield Brewery is Grade II listed and contains fine examples of late Victorian brewery design. The site set within the Springfield Conservation Area and the distinctive clock tower and pyramidal roof to the original brewhouse are local landmarks. The project required redevelopment of the site to create the University of Wolverhampton’s new School of Architecture and the Built Environment commencing in late 2018.
The Practice were involved in the project from November 2017, providing historic buildings consultancy services in relation to the design of the new building and retention of existing buildings, building recording, Heritage Impact Assessments and advising on the conservation of retained fabric.
