Compton Verney Warwickshire
Client: Compton Verney House Trust
Compton Verney House is a Grade I listed country house designed by Robert Adam in the 1760s, and set in more than 120 acres of classical parkland landscaped by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown. Decades of neglect throughout the 20th century had left the house in a state of decay, and by the early 1990s its future looked bleak.
The Practice oversaw a programme of phased repair work including re-roofing, masonry repairs, consolidating walls and partitions, strengthening floors and reinstating damaged plasterwork. Together with architects Stanton Williams, we created a harmonious dialogue between old and new to transform Compton Verney into an award-winning gallery, which exhibits an impressive collection of paintings and sculpture.
