Sarehole Mill Birmingham
Client: Birmingham City Council
Grade II listed Sarehole Mill is associated with the author, J. R. R. Tolkein. The Mill and the local landscape provided inspiration for his books, the Hobbit and Lord of the rings.
The 200 year old Mill is Grade II listed and is one of only two surviving mills in Birmingham. Sarehole Mill was first built as a corn grinding mill but has only been used for rolling sheet metal, grinding blades and wire rolling.
The practice has carried out a Fabric Condition Survey of the buildings and has provided full architectural services for roof repair works and provision of disabled access to the Mill and secluded mill pond behind the building.
The most recent phase of works involved reroofing the mill and refurbishing the redundant bakehouse to return it to its original use as a bakery.
