St. Swithun’s Church Worcestershire
Client: Churches Conservation Trust
The town centre church of St Swithun, rebuilt in 1734 is one of the most complete surviving examples of a Georgian ecclesiastical interior in the country.
The carved three-decker pulpit, topped by a gilded pelican feeding her young, is a work of art, and the 1795 organ by the Gray Brothers of London is Grade I listed. The tall Tudor tower remains from the old church.
Rodney Melville and Partners were appointed Lead Consultant, Conservation Architect, Contract Administrator and Principal Designer for Sound and Art @ St Swithun’s, an innovative project designed not only to repair and conserve the fabric of the Grade I listed building but also to provide modern facilities and improve access.
